Fire Door Awareness

Description
This course is is delivered through NOCN SiteRight, and is designed to be delivered to both fitters and supervisors or other office staff who may be involved in the fitting of fire doors.
 
The course is delivered to different groups of either fitters or supervisors, content covered in each course is the same for both, with the focus of delivery of the course varying to suit.
  • Supervisors will only require the awareness course, unless they will be fitting fire doors themselves.
  • Fitters will have the option of being assessed on-site, fitting a complete fire door set marked against NVQ criteria and certificated by NOCN.
 
This certificate can be added to any CSCS card and provides the proof of competence of the fitters when required.
 
Progression Opportunities
Successful delegates can progress onto further qualifications relating to passive fire protection.

Course Content
The course includes:
  • The role of timber fire door assemblies and door sets and why it is important that they are installed correctly
  • Understanding how fire door assemblies and door sets work and their place in the wider passive fire protection system
  • Legislation and guidance associated with fire door assemblies and door sets
  • Considerations before installing fire door assemblies and door sets
  • Considerations when installing fire door assemblies and door sets
  • Considerations on completion of the installation of fire door assemblies and door sets.
 
The fitters course will concentrate on what is required to complete the fitting of a compliant fire door set and, if required, will prepare them for the the on-site assessment of fitting a complete door set to required standards. This will provide the evidence of proof of competence as required under any audit system.
 
The supervisors course will concentrate on;
  • The planning of the work
  • Site surveys
  • Ordering of materials
  • Checking compatibility and traceability
  • Door registers/schedules
  • Maintenance logs
  • Inspection logs
  • Audit trails and Quality assurance checks
